Shēnɡdiào bù tónɡ, yìyì yě bù tónɡ. Shēnɡdiào fúhào biāo zài zhǔyào yuányīn ( jí xiǎnɡ-

  When a syllable is pronounced in different tones, it bears different meanings. The tone-mark is placed above the main vowel ( the one pronounced louder ).

 

Yùnmǔ “ i,u” zì chénɡ yīnjié shí, xiě chénɡ “ yi,wu”, “ i” shànɡ biāo diàohào, shěnɡ

  Being a syllable by itself, “i” is written as “yi”, “u” is written as “wu”. When a tone-mark is placed above “i”, the dot over it should be omitted.
