The educational system of China consists of primary and secondary education,secondary and higher vocational education and higher education.
Chinese children usually start their schooling at the age of six or seven.They spend six years in an elementary school.After that,they enter a junior middle school to study for three more years.These nine years of schooling are generally referred to as ‘nine-year compulsory education’,and are popularized in most parts of China.
After graduating from a junior middle school,many students enter a senior middle school,whereas some choose to go to a specialized secondary school or a vocational secondary school(generally called ‘vocational senior middle school’).The period of study for both types school is three years.After graduating,students may seek employment or continue their studies at the higher education level.
In higher education,the study period for a university education is usually four years,but some programmes(medicine,for instance)require five years of study.At the time of graduation,if a student meets all the academic requirements,a bachelor’s degree is then conferred upon him or her by the university authorized by the state.After graduating from a university,one may opt for futher studies toward master’s and doctoral degrees.Each degree usually takes three years to obtain.Some master’s programmes are two years in length,while the study period for some PhD’s programmes take four years.Like most universities in the world,Chinese universities offer three academic degrees,i.e.,the bachelor’s,the master’s,and the doctorate.

然 后 由 国 家 授 权 的 大 学 授 予 学 士 学 位 ，
dà xué bì yè hòu ， ké yǐ xuǎn zé ɡōnɡ dú shuò shì hé bó shì xué wèi ，
大 学 毕 业 后 ， 可 以 选 择 攻 读 硕 士 和 博 士 学 位 ，
měi ɡè xué wèi tōnɡ chánɡ xū yào sān nián cái nénɡ huò dé ，
每 个 学 位 通 常 需 要 三 年 才 能 获 得 ，
yǒu xiē shuò shì kè chénɡ shì liǎnɡ nián zhì de 。
有 些 硕 士 课 程 是 两 年 制 的 。
yǔ shì jiè shànɡ dà duō shù dà xué yí yànɡ ，
与 世 界 上 大 多 数 大 学 一 样 ，
zhōnɡ ɡuó dà xué tí ɡōnɡ sān ɡè xué wèi ，
中 国 大 学 提 供 三 个 学 位 ，
jí xué shì xué wèi 、 shuò shì xué wèi hé bó shì xué wèi 。
即 学 士 学 位 、 硕 士 学 位 和 博 士 学 位 。
