Spring Festival

 

chūn jié shì zhōnɡ ɡuó rén yì nián zhōnɡ dì dì yí ɡè chuán tǒnɡ jiā jié 。 

春   节  是  中    国  人  一 年   中    的 第 一 个 传    统   佳  节  。 

Spring Festival is the first traditional festival for the Chinese people.

 

 

ɡuò qù , chūn jié bèi chēnɡ wéi “ xīn nián ” ,

过  去 , 春   节  被  称    为  “ 新  年   ” , 

yīn wèi àn zhào zhōnɡ ɡuó yì zhí yán yònɡ de nónɡ lì ,

因  为  按 照   中    国  一 直  沿  用   的 农   历 , 

zhè tiān shì zhēnɡ yuè chū yī , wéi xīn yì nián de kāi tóu 。 

 这  天   是  正    月  初  一 , 为  新  一 年   的 开  头  。 

In the past years, Spring Festival was called “new year”, for this day was the first day of the lunar month according to the lunar calendar which had long been used in China, so it was the beginning of a new year.

 

 

jù jì zǎi , zhōnɡ ɡuó rén mín ɡuò chūn jié yǐ yǒu 4000 duō nián de lì shǐ ,

据 记 载  , 中    国  人  民  过  春   节  已 有  4000 多  年   的 历 史  , 

tā shì yóu yú shùn xīnɡ qǐ de 。 

 

它 是  由  虞 舜   兴   起 的 。 

It is recorded that Chinese people have celebrated Spring Festival for more than 4000 years, which was started by Yu Shun.

 

 

ɡōnɡ yuán qián liǎnɡ qiān duō nián de yì tiān , shùn jí tiān zǐ wèi ,

公   元   前   两    千   多  年   的 一 天   , 舜   即 天   子 位  ,

dài lǐnɡ zhe bù xià rén yuán , jì bài tiān dì 。 

带  领   着  部 下  人  员   , 祭 拜  天   地 。 

cónɡ cǐ , rén men jiù bǎ zhè yì tiān dànɡ zuò suì shǒu ,

从   此 , 人  们  就  把 这  一 天   当   作  岁  首   , 

suàn shì zhēnɡ yuè chū yī 。 

 

算   是  正    月  初  一 。 

 

One day as far back as 2000 B.C, Shun was inaugurated as the emperor. He led his men to hold a ceremony in honor of Heaven and Earth.

 

From then on, people saw that day as the beginning of the year, the first day of the lunar month.

 

jù shuō zhè jiù shì nónɡ lì xīn nián de yóu lái , hòu lái jiào chūn jié 。 

 

据 说   这  就  是  农   历 新  年   的 由  来  , 后  来  叫   春   节  。

This is said to be the origin of the lunar new year, which was called Spring Festival later.

 

1911 nián xīn hài ɡé mìnɡ hòu , zhōnɡ ɡuó cǎi yònɡ ɡōnɡ lì jì nián , nónɡ lì xīn nián biàn ɡǎi chēnɡ “ chūn jié ” 。 

1911 年   辛  亥  革 命   后  , 中    国  采  用   公   历 纪 年   , 农   历 新  年   便   改  称    “ 春   节  ” 。 

After the Revolution of 1911, China began to number the years according to the Gregorian calendar, and it was then that the lunar new year began to be called Spring Festival.
